Birthday in Bangkok (almost)

There doesn’t seem to be much cultural significance for our 23rd birthday, and  I have to admit my expectations have been pretty low until recently. I know twenty three is still  young, but as someone who still sees themselves as a child-I’d go as far as to say twenty three is ancient.  It’s my first birthday post-college graduation, which means it’s also my first birthday not being celebrated in Auburn’s most abysmal setting:the Boom Boom Room.

I happen to be celebrating this birthday 50,000 feet in the air, somewhere above the Pacific Ocean. As I wait for my medically induced slumber to begin, I thought I’d take this time to officially welcome everyone to this “blog” (you can’t see but I’m using air quotes). Some of my writings will  probably be amusing, hopefully the rest will be educational. I have a lot of exciting adventures planned for the next couple of months and I’m very proud to be sharing all of it here.

This being said, we were supposed to be celebrating in Bangkok two days ago, but Air Canada had other plans for us. Unfortunately, I can’t go into the details of our encounter with the baggage claim agents and my disdain for the Vancouver Airport because my blood pressure will rise to an alarming level. To make a long story short, Georgia’s bag made a trip to Thailand without us. Luckily I had my bag, but it was full of bikinis and jorts which were not helpful in the snow. Following a pit stop at H&M for the warmest jackets we could find, we made our way down to Stanley Park. Our spirits remained high as we shuffled past the marina and explored the urban utopia that is the West End of Vancouver.  Despite the small mental break down we both experienced at the baggage claim carousel, it ended up being my favorite birthday thus far.

Two days and many emergency expenditures on my credit card later, we made it back to the airport with an even stronger sense of determination. Now on our way to Bangkok, I finally force myself to open my laptop and be productive.

I want to write as openly as possible, but my family and employer are both reading this and I really value their opinions of me. For this reason, I will refrain from speaking about whatever events transpire that would worry my grandmother.  However, I will be curating content about local cuisine, spirits, travel tips, and whatever else I want because I paid for the domain. Hopefully you’ll enjoy reading about my escapades, and I apologize in advance for the abundance of run-on sentences. Welcome!
